OUR AIR COACHES
17 U Head Coach
17U Assistant Coach
Hi, I am Heidi. I currently live in Rochester, Mn. I have coached at various levels from high school down to 5th graders. My wide range of levels helps me understand the importance of developing a strong AAU team as well as fostering and supporting a strong youth program. I have also played at all levels, from a very little girl, all the way to high school Nike Elite (before there was actual AAU programs), and college. I look forward to coaching your daughters.
Hello, my name is Lisa Ross. Although I'm a mom to many, I am a mother of 3. I started my basketball career in the 4th grade and was one of the first girls from Rochester to play AAU for North Tartan (1992). I've been coaching youth basketball for over 9 years, 4 years coaching boys and 5 years assistant coaching girls. My goal for any player is to be the best student-athlete they can be while putting in the work to achieve their personal goals as well. I will help them develop their skills and techniques on the court so they can gain confidence and excel in a sport they love. I look forward to working with these girls and watching them have fun while doing something they love.
Air Minnesota was formed by Heidi Sonju to showcase the talent in Minnesota. Our mission is to develop strong young women, both on and off the court. On the court we will develop a high IQ of the game, personal accountability, sportsmanship and athletic skills. Beyond the court, academic success is a key component to our program. Our goals are to produce athletes who can play basketball at the highest competitive levels, and to cultivate strong students. We are committed to progressive developmental approach to inspire self-confidence, athletic excellence and leadership in the girls we serve.
Hi, I am Dan Jech. I am finishing up my 4th year at the University of South Dakota majoring in marketing with an emphasis on sports. I started playing basketball in 6th grade and have loved it ever since, as I still am playing it year-round in college. I am excited to be able to coach these young ladies through AAU, as I competed nationally in the AAU circuit during my high school years. I hope to teach how basketball is not only a game, but a lifestyle and how it can affect your life on and off the court. I will bring my knowledge and energy into the success of the team, memories that these ladies make with each other will be ones that last forever. I feel it is important to become not only teammates, but friends and family whom they can rely on. I cannot wait for the season to get started!
7th Grade Assistant Coach
Hello, I am Emma Collins. I am in my final year of college at the University of South Dakota majoring in marketing where after I will return to Rochester full-time. Throughout my whole life I have been around basketball. Growing up, my mom coached basketball at various levels so I was around higher level practices and games quite often. I myself also played from a very young age throughout high school. I am very eager to get back into the gym to share the love of this game with these young adults. The memories and lessons that these girls can have and learn on and off the court are ones that will follow them throughout life. I am so excited to be able to coach for Air Minnesota.
